NGC 146 Cocoon Nebula

 
IC5146, The Cocoon Nebula: LX200, Meade f/6.3 focal reducer, ST8E, (10min Clear, 5x1.5 min R, 5x1.5 min V (green), 2x5 min B Johnson-Cousins/Schuler filters). Processing done with MAXIM DL and Photoshop. Some star images were saturated in the Clear image. The unsightly "blooming" effect was edited out. Posted 1 Aug 2000. The Cocoon Nebula. Probably a reflection nebula, about 5700 light years distant. Described in Burnham's Celestial Handbook as "L, F, 1E", meaning Large, Faint, little Elongated.
